How to monitor your VM backup and restore jobs in real time

How to monitor - 1

Today I will introduce the “Monitor Center” of Vinchin Backup & Recovery, including each function and how to use it. 

Let’s go to the web console of Vinchin Backup & Recovery, in the menu on your left-hand side, click the “Monitor Center”.  

The first module is“Job”, there are two selections “Current Job” and “History Job”.

For“Current Job”, after creating a new job whether it’s for VM backup or restore, you can view and manage it on this page.

Moving your mouse on the “New Job” button, you can create different VM protection jobs here, and each option will send you to the corresponding job page, including “VM Backup”, “File Backup”, and “Backup Copy” and “Backup Archive”.

You can search a certain job by entering the job name in the right top search bar or select by “Advanced search”.

All the basic information and status of the job will be shown in the “current job” list.

Click the “plus bottom” in front of each job, you can review the schedules of this job.

Click the job name, take the first backup archive job shown below, and you will see the job running details page. Click the top right “Back”, you can go back to the current job list.

And click the “Options” under the “Operation”, you can start, stop, edit or delete any VM backup/recovery job accordingly. Notice that if you want to modify the backup job, please first stop this job if it’s “Pending” or “Running”. Once its status changes to “Stopped”, you can then click “Options” - “Edit” to change any part of this backup job.

Here I have some tips for you:

If you preset the job as run at once, it will disappear from the current job list and the system will remind you the job has been finished. You can find it on the History Job page.

And if you preset the job as run as scheduled, it will remain in the current job list as “Pending” after the first-time job is finished, and waiting for the next run automatically.

For “History Job”, all the performed jobs will be listed here for you to review the history job running details and status.

Here you can delete any of the history jobs when necessary.

Note here: If you delete any history job from the history job page, this job will also be deleted from the corresponding current job details “History Job” list.

By “Download Logs”, you can select the jobs you want to download its Logs.

Also, you can search for a certain job by entering the job name in the right top search bar or selecting the “Advanced search”.

The next module of “Monitor Center” is “Alert”.

Click the “Alert” from the “Monitor Center”, and you are coming to the “Job Alert” page.

On this page you will see each job running alert including “Notice”, “Warning” and “Error”, you can see the status by “Alert Types”. Also, you can delete any job when necessary. But notice that once deleted, the job alert is not recoverable.

You can search for a certain job by entering the job name in the right top search bar. And you can search the job by alert type.

And new job alert is default marked as pending, if you have checked this alert and processed it accordingly, you can mark it as processed by clicking “Mark as Processed”.

You can see the status by “Mark”, and click details you can see the job alert details, also you can mark the “processed” alert as “Pending” in the “Details”.

If there is an “Error” alert, you can click the “Details” to view the status messages of the VM from the “VM Information”, and check the error info from the “Log Info”, you can download it by clicking “Download Log”, send this log to support@vinchin.com to get a debug solution.

Go to the “System Alert”, and you are coming to the system alert page. On this page you will see the system running alerts including “Notice” “Warning” and “Error”, you can see the status by “alert types”. Also, you can delete any VM backup/restore job when necessary, but notice that once deleted, the system alert is not recoverable. All the functions and options are as same as on the “Job Alert” page.

Meanwhile, Vinchin Backup & Recovery provides the email notification of any alerts. Before enabling the email notification, you need to set the user’s email address.

Go to the top bar on the right-hand side, “admin” and click the “My Information”, fill in the email address, and click “Save”.

Then go to the left-hand side menu, click the “system” – “system setting”, there will show the setting page. Click the “Notification”, here is the “Email Notification” option.

If you have your own mail server, you can change the default sender mail information to yours accordingly. We recommend you to use Vinchin sender mail server, please keep the default information and click “Send testing email”, and you will receive an email that means the sending test is succeeded, click “Save”.

Then turn on the email notification.

You can also choose to turn on the system/job alert and set different system notification levels as below. The system will send the corresponding notification to your email address. And Email notification is a free service. The system will automatically send notification emails to you once you turn on this function.

The next module is “Log”.

Click “Log” under the “Monitor Center” -, you are coming to the “Job Log” page, here has listed all the job log details including job running status, time and description, etc. You can choose target job logs to delete.

You can search for a certain job by entering the job name in the right top search bar or select by “Advanced search”.

For the “System Log”, almost the same as the “Job Log” page, here has listed all the System logs details including job running status, time and description, etc.

Meanwhile, you can download system logs here. Click the “Download System Logs” option, the new page will come out, you can choose the target system logs to download. If you have logged in to another backup node, you can choose them by “Backup Node”.

The last module of Monitor Center is “Report”.

In the “VM Report”, you can review the VM backup statistics, backup schedule, and restore points details as well as storage spaces. statistics, backup schedule, and restore points details as well as storage spaces. Also, you can download the “Report Export”.

In the “Storage Report”, you can see the detailed info on backup storage usage. Including the details of the Storage Overview and Storage Statistics. Also, you can download the “Report Export”.

If you want to get more directly express your VM details, Vinchin Backup & Recovery provides the feature of Data Visualization, click the “Data Visualization” in the right top bar.

Data Visualization includes the accurate and efficient, concise, and comprehensive transmission of your data protection information.

Here will show the information of your data including “VIRTUAL INFRASTRUCTURE LIST”, “BACKUP STORAGE”, “BACKUP NODE”, “CURRENT JOB”, “HISTORY JOB”, “LATELY BACKED UP VMS”, “DAILY BACKUP VMS”, “DAILY STORAGE USAGE”. And the size of “total backup” and the number of your “protected VMs” will show directly.
