With a Synology NAS, you can easily create a secure private cloud to store, back up, access, and share your files. Backing up Synology NAS with Synology Drive Client to other storage like WD or QNAP is a recommended practice, but restoring one is another matter.

Accidentally deleting data from the NAS hard drive can be a common occurrence, and the Recycle Bin option can help you recover deleted files. It retrieves files when users delete them accidentally. However, things could be different when it comes to server corruption, disk formatting or initialization, or ransomware attacks. Enabling Recycle Bin for each shared folder is suggested, there are also other Synology recovery tools and third-party software available to supplement or replace this feature if it fails.

This article will walk you through the process of enabling Recycle Bin on DSM and present alternative options for recovering deleted files.

Backup Synology to Recover Deleted Files without Recycle Bin When Needed

Synology data recovery with Recycle Bin requires the feature to be enabled, or it can’t work as expected. And it cannot deal with situations where the NAS file system is corrupted, a power failure occurs, or virus attacks.

Vinchin Backup & Recovery restores Synology deleted or lost files whatever happens. Being a backup solution highly compatible with 12 virtualizations, 6 databases, physical servers, and any NAS brand under NFS/CIFS protocols like Synology, QNAP, Asustor, Western Digital, Buffalo, etc., it features:

  • Automatic NAS backup with smart strategies such as data compression and encryption, multiple backup options, multithreaded transfer, file filter, etc.

  • Restore NAS data from deletion, formatting, system failure, power outage, and ransomware to the original/new location/another NAS/server file system.

  • Encrypt backups with bank-level AES-256 standards and secure them in real-time by an IO monitor to reject unauthorized visits.

  • Send an offsite backup copy to a remote location for safety or archive data to public clouds for double protection.

Download the 60-day free trial to restore your Synology easily.

Before recovering your NAS, you must add the NAS share to the Vinchin software and license it, then create a NAS backup job as the source. Now, you are good to go.

1.     Go to NAS Backup> Restore, choose a restore point where the target files/folders reside, and select them.

2.     Either restore to NAS Share or File Server under the same path or a new one.

3.     Set a speed controller and transfer thread number.

4.     Check and submit the task. You can see the recovered data in the desired destination later.
