Sichuan University (SCU) was founded in 1740 in Chengdu, China. Is one of the national universities directly under the Ministry of Education (MOE). It is also one of the State 211 Project and 985 Project universities enjoying privileged construction in the Ninth Five-Year Plan period, and is a Chinese Ministry of Education Class A Double First Class University.

By the end of 2017, the school had 5,494 full-time teachers, more than 37,000 full-time undergraduate students, 20,000 master's degree students and 3,700 foreign students.

“I have been working in IT department of Sichuan University for 12 years. With the deepening of informatization, the work of informatization construction has changed a lot.” Said Mr Xiang, director of IT department in SCU.

“The informatization construction process of Sichuan University is a process from simple to complex. About 10 years ago, there were only a few dozen servers, but now we have thousands of virtual servers are running critical applications. The amount of data is also increasing very fast. 10 years ago we only had 2TB of centralized storage. Now our overall storage capacity has exceeded 5PB.” Said Mr Xiang.

“Early backup methods were complex, we use backup software plus tape to do backup and recovery, it’s not automated, whilst we cannot achieve 100% recovery with tape.”Said Mr Xiang.
