How to add CIFS share as a storage resource?

question Answer

Before adding a CIFS share to Vinchin as a storage resource, here are some prerequisites:

  • The CIFS share must be accessible from Vinchin server.

  • The folder which you wish to use must exist on the CIFS share.

  • The user credentials you provided must have read and write permissions to the CIFS share.

  • The CIFS share must be compatible with SMB protocol version 2 or later.

To add a CIFS share, follow the steps below:

  1. On Resources -> Storage screen, click on Add button.

  2. In Storage Type dropdown list, select CIFS.

  3. In Node IP/Domain dropdown list, select the target node which you wish the storage to be added.

  4. In Shared Folder field, type in the full path of the CIFS share, the format should be: //server/share.

  5. The config the mount params is optional, it can be used to specify some additional parameters of mounting the CIFS share if need.

  6. In Mount Params field, type in the parameters for mounting the CIFS share if needed. For example, you can specify the SMB protocol version by vers=2.0.

  7. In Username and Password fields, specify the user credentials of this CIFS share, and the user must have read and write permissions to the CIFS share, otherwise you'll fail to add the storage.

  8. Choose the Storage Objective from Backup, Backup Copy and Backup Archive. This will determine for which purpose the storage will be used.

  9. Optionally configure the storage Name and Storage Alert.

  10. Click on OK button to add the CIFS share as a storage resource.

If this CIFS share was once used by Vinchin backup server and there's backup data inside, Vinchin backup server will automatically detect the backups and provide you options to import the existing backups or to proceed without import.
